Gavin is 3 months old!!

2 month appt (7/6/11) Gavin is 16 lbs 14 oz, no 3 month appt so we're not sure how much he currently weighs (we don't have a scale in the house) but to give you a sense. The 3 month shot above is him filling out a 12 month onesie (without a cloth diaper to blame). Also, with his recent diaper rash we've been using disposables and a size 3 just wont cut it anymore. We've moved up to a size 4.
Rolled over? Gavin rolled over from belly to back 7/11/11 AM but Dave is skeptical because it happened on the chaise portion of our couch, which is in all fairness a bit downhill. So we'll have to see if he does it on a flat surface but still it was fun to see him push up so high with his arms and then tilt his head and wheee roll over. Just a few days later (7/16) he rolled over on the floor so it's official now.
9pm bedtime: Gavin is getting to be in a nice little routine about going to bed by 9pm. It doesn't seem to matter if I start the process at 8pm or 8:30pm so I may as well wait a bit. Rocking him in the chair while I nurse him often puts me to bed and half of the time I succumb to the early bedtime though other times I force myself to wake up and do a bit of work (be it for actual work, housework or working out).
Update: later in the month he started getting tired earlier as in 8pm so sometimes I'm not sure who to put to bed first.
Reading books: now that Gavin is interested in looking all around, we always show him the pictures in Mia's book during her bedtime routine. If I don't, Mia will remind me, "you forgot to show Gavin that page mama!".
A thumb sucker like his mama. Although it took him a month or so to figure it out perfectly Gavin loves to suck his right thumb and at least for now it is making our life easier as he is able to put himself to bed all on his own occasionally.
On 7/14/11 Gavin giggled for daddy when he imitated coos at him in increasingly louder and more animated voices. I have yet to hear this giggle but I totally believe Dave and look forward to getting one myself.
It might be his 3 month growth spurt a little early (7/17/11) or our little man is consistently sleeping though the night (officially defined as a 5 hr chunk of sleep). He has for several nights now gone to sleep at 8:30pm and awoken at 2-2:30am. Then he usually goes back to sleep until 5:30am and even dozes a bit with me in bed after that until 7am.
Not just a growth spurt: Gavin sleeps 9 hr stretches with no milk often. At most he wakes up only once a night now :) When he does he seems to get fussy around 3am but doesn't always need more than a reassuring hand (sometimes just a diaper change and sometimes a quick snack). Here's to more sleep!
Dave said Gavin is starting to watch him eat stuff and Dave also says he has to stop Mia from putting things in his mouth. So far Mia has given him a taste of basil and pasta (just to his lips) but Dave and I intentionally give him tastes of stuff too (he loves apple rubbed on his lips and today we rubbed our own homegrown carrot on his lips). People are always into giving babies toys to hold and see but I think taste and smell are also important.
During our heat wave I took Mia and Gavin out on our sprinkler mat and although Gavin didn't like it at first, he rather enjoyed dipping his toes in the water and "holding" a stream of water in his fist. At Ocean City twice we sat with him in the tide and let the water come and go over his little er I should say generous thighs :) On another water related note, Gavin has graduated from the hammock in his baby tub and seems to like the bath a lot better now. Also, Gavin has just started drooling, lovely! Let the long process of teething begin. . . poor guy.
Gavin has recently become much more vocal and is currently playing with the volume of his voice and definitely "talking" more. They are always happy noises and usually involve a big open mouth with a tongue that moves all about.
Here are some pictures of Gavin and Mia together:
Dave said Mia had been asking to hold Gavin and when he placed Gavin in her lap cradle style with the boppy, as usual, she said, "no, here" and patted her chest. This (see picture) is the way she wanted to hold him. Month 3 and Mia is still super in love with Gavin.
Gavin was invited to his big sister's tea party!
